ABOUT
A renowned Advertising Creative Director hailing from Sydney, Australia, Matt has become a specialist in documentary storytelling, guided by a wealth of experience in branded client documentaries. His profound curiosity and deep instinct for connecting with people have fueled his transition into heartfelt, original storytelling, with the ambition of producing larger-scale feature projects.
His debut, self-funded documentary, "Ghost Town Cricket," showcases a talent for original storytelling, earning official festival selections and awards around the world, including multiple Best Documentary, Best First-Time Director and Film of the Festival (Culture Cinema) from a field of 38 countries represented.
Growing up in a musical family, Matt had several major roles in school concerts and appeared on the 'Midday Show with Ray Martin' with a kids choir alongside the legendary Australian rocker, Billy Thorpe. His extroverted performance background, which also includes a quirky role as Swedish furniture designer 'Alvar Karlsson' in several IKEA ad campaigns, gives him a unique ability to guide performance craft in a hands-on, collaborative and authentic style.
Matt’s approach to documentary filmmaking blends his commercial spot direction with his instinct to connect deeply with people, crafting engaging narratives that move viewers and position brands, products, and services in a positive light. As a successful advertising creative and agency co-founder (The Cowboys), he has an experienced understanding of the client/agency relationship and end-to-end technical finesse, nurturing these toward effective outcomes.
With expertise in concept development, scriptwriting, directing, and post-production technique, Matt is dedicated to telling stories with soul—stories that move and inspire, leaving a lasting impact long after the credits fade.
On weekends, you can find him exploring the great Australian outdoors in any way shape or form, capturing hobby film and photography from the land, sea or sky, and keeping up with his 5-year-old son, Remy.
